HOW IT WORKS

Watching, choosing, and writing it down.

Three plots. One choice each season. The rest is the slow work of the ground, and a pencil kept close by.

A ripe lift

The tag reads ripe once the weeks are in. The stems come up full. One bloom is pressed and taped to the tag, and seed is saved back to the tin. Right ground, more stems.

An early lift

Lifted before its weeks, a plot gives soft stems and no seed. It is still written down. The almanac keeps the early ones too.

The tin

Common, kept, and heirloom packets. Each planting uses one. The same seed twice in one bed tires the ground; a change rests it.
